The Whaley House

In Old Town San Diego, you’ll find The Whaley House, now a museum that offers visitors a view of San Diego from times past. But this house is more than simply a relic from the mid-19th century and a specimen of Greek Revival architecture. It’s also famously haunted. Before the house was built, the property was the location of gallows where criminals were often hung. It also was the location of the notorious suicide of Violet Whaley, the daughter of the original family of the house. Guests have claimed to have seen a man standing in the parlor who may have been the ghost of Thomas Whaley himself, as well as the ghost of his wife in the garden. Other sightings have been that of a long-haired girl in the dining room, and even apparitions of animals past read more here…

How to Make the Most of a Short Trip

Everyone loves to have a week or two to really enjoy their vacation, but life doesn’t always allow for full vacations. Maybe you’re lucky to be able to get away for a weekend. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t have a great experience. San Diego and La Jolla, in particular, has plenty to offer, no matter how long you plan to stay. Are you worried that you’ll miss out by only having a limited time for your trip? Here are our tips for making the most of your short trip:

Stick to a Carry-On

One of the perks of a short vacation is that there’s less to pack. You may be able to avoid paying for checked bags by packing only a carry on bag. Your carry-on can fit your clothes for a few days (even more clothes if you roll them rather than folding), and hygiene products, a change of shoes, and a book to read during downtime. You’ll also likely be allowed a personal item, such as a shoulder bag or laptop bag before you have to check anything. Read more here…

4 Tips for Road Trippers – Destination San Diego

Is there a more exciting way to travel than taking a road trip? It’s traveling the slow way, checking out all the exciting stops from Point A to Point B. No airports, no bus stations, just you, your car, and some of your favorite people. Some road trippers even travel cross country, so often San Diego is a popular destination for those traveling from the east coast. This could be the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer before starting a new school year, or even an opportunity to use up some hard-earned vacation time. Here are a few tips to get the most of it:

Get Your Car Ready

You’ll be spending a lot of time in your car over the course of this trip, so make sure your car is a comfortable place to be and that it’s in good shape for the coming trip. You might want to take your car to a mechanic to check things like your fluid and brakes before taking it to cross country. Make sure you’ve cleaned it out before you get started. You may also invest in sun shields for your car windshield, to keep it cool on hot, sunny days, especially if you’re headed to San Diego. Read more here…

Tips for Surviving a Long Flight With Kids

Vacations are supposed to be relaxing, but getting there can sometimes be a hassle. If you’re traveling alone, you might enjoy the long flight. It could be a chance to catch up on sleep, read a book, watch a movie you haven’t seen yet, or simply get to know the person in the seat beside you. However, if you’re traveling with kids, the experience is a bit less laid back. No one wants to be the parents on the plane whose children are causing a commotion, and if you have a twelve-hour flight or a flight with layovers, this can be even more stressful. Fortunately, we have a few helpful tips to make the process more manageable.

Fly By Night (Literally)

Worried your kids will fuss throughout the whole flight? Or, better yet, worried that landing at a strange hour in a different timezone will cause jetlag that throws off your trip? You can avoid both of these problems by flying at night. If you book a flight that leaves around 8 pm or later, chances are the lights will be down for most of the flight, and the kids will be a little sleepy by that point. You can all get some sleep on your flight and wake up at — or at least near — your destination. Read more here…
